On Wednesday, April 13 at 6 p.m., the exhibition will be presented and will be broadcast live on the FB and YouTube channels of the Museums of Sitges.
In the words of its curators, this exhibition aims to shed light and make visible "many artists who, from the very beginning, took sides in favor of the Republic, legally and legitimately established, and of the revolution.
In reality, they put themselves at the service of the Generalitat de Catalunya to participate in education, culture, the protection of artistic heritage... They, like their colleagues, played a major role in the communication of information and ideological transmission. They joined artists' unions, participated in exhibitions and collaborated with their drawings and photomontages in different magazines of the time. (...) We want to publicize works made by these artists, whose iconography reveals different aspects of life during the years of the Republic (1931-1939).
We pretend that his works tell us about those years and the problems they had to face, the worst of which was the fierce and bloody war that lasted almost three years. Only in this way, the collective memory, which has ignored these women in their artistic work during the good and bad days of the Republic, will leave this unfortunate forgotten and, finally, their deserved value can be recognized.
