‘Any Vallmitjana’
Entrance with access to the Cau Ferrat and the Maricel Museum
The exhibition hall of Can Rocamora (the building that connects Cau Ferrat and the Maricel Museum) presents a tribute to the family of the Vallmitjana sculptors, on the occasion of the commemoration of theVallmitjana Year. This is an exhibition with nine works: five from Venanci Vallmitjana i Barbany (Barcelona, 1826-1919), three from his son Agapit Vallmitjana i Arbaca (Barcelona, 1850-1915) and one of his brother Agapit Vallmitjana i Barbany (Barcelona , 1833-1905). All the pieces are part of the Collection of Dr. Jesús Pérez-Rosales, integrated in the collection of the Maricel Museum. The show can be seen until January 12.
Venanci Vallmitjana was a renowned sculptor, author of emblematic works in public spaces of Barcelona and Montserrat, and with works in some of the most prestigious museums of the State, such as the Prado, the MNAC, the Fine Arts of Bilbao, the Maritime Museum of Barcelona or the Academy of San Fernando de Madrid. Considered an advanced sculptor at the time, the Collection of Dr. Jesús Pérez-Rosales has five works of his, four of which are busts and the other a portrait of a girl.
The Collection of Dr. Jesús Pérez-Rosales also has a piece by his brother, Agapit, who has his work in public spaces in Barcelona, Montserrat, Valencia, Sevilla, Malaga or Buenos Aires, in addition to the Prado, Diocesan Museum of Barcelona or Víctor Balaguer de Vilanova. For his part, the son of Venanci, also called Agapit, is the author of lions sculptures at the Palau de la Generalitat, the Monument to Columbus, the Ciutadella Park and the Retiro in Madrid, and he also worked at the Prado , the MNAC, the Diocesan Museum or the Museum of Modern Art of Madrid.
Vallmitjana's nine works are terracotta and dated, in all cases, from the last third of the 20th century. The exhibition can be visited until January 12, with access to the Cau Ferrat and the Maricel Museum. The exhibition opened last Friday, with the assistance of the director of Sitges Museums, Pere Izquierdo, and the Councilor for Education, David Martínez.
